Shootout at a Fordyce grocery store leaves two dead and eight injured

Two people were killed and eight people were injured, including a law enforcement officer, from an active shooter incident in Fordyce on Friday morning.The incident happened at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce. The incident was described as a “shootout” involving two groups and “AR-15 style weapons.” According to a Dallas County Courthouse employee, at least four active shooters were involved in the incident.

Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued a statement that her prayers are with the victims. “I have been briefed on the tragic shooting in Fordyce, and I’m in constant contact with State Police at the scene. I am thankful to law enforcement and first responders for their quick and heroic action to save lives. My prayers are with the victims and all those impacted by this,” Gov. Sanders stated on X.

According to an update from Arkansas State Police, nine people were shot, two died and a police officer was also shot and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Calhoun County Judge Floyd Nutt confirmed the fatality and said it was no longer an active shooter situation. Calhoun County sent law enforcement to aid in the response.
