Baxter Co. sales tax sees increase for June, slight decrease for City of Mountain Home

Sales tax numbers for Baxter County are up for June while the City of Mountain Home sees a slight decrease.

According to Mountain Home’s Director of Finance and Treasury Alma Clark, the city collected a total of $560,285 in city sales tax revenue for June which is an decrease of 1.1% for the month. Year-to-date, the city has seen a total increase of $74,492 or 2.2%.

Figures released by Baxter County Treasurer Jenay Mize show Baxter County’s revenue portion equals $491,259. This time last year, Baxter County received $479,973 which is an increase of $11,285 or 2.4%.

Sales tax reports are released by the state Department of Finance and Administration two months after the taxes are collected by area businesses. The following numbers were received in June, which reflect area spending from the month of April.

Mountain Home received $265,750 in county sales tax. When compared to last year’s total of $259,645, which is a increase of 2.4%. The year-to-date increase equals $43,278 or 2.2%.

Other Baxter County cities receiving revenue from the county’s sales tax include:

– Gassville, which received $44,985;

– Cotter, which received $18,359;

– Lakeview, which received $16,085;

– Salesville, which received $9,801;

– Norfork, which received $9,635;

– Briarcliff, which received $4,890; and

– Big Flat, which received $1,823.

Baxter County received $215,640 in revenue from its 0.25% sales tax for maintenance and operation of the Baxter County Detention Center.

Mountain Home received $210,106 from its 0.375% sales tax to support its police and fire departments. At this time last year, the city received $212,466, which is a monthly decrease of 1.1%. The year-to-date increase is nearly $27,947 or 2.2%.

Mountain Home has collected nearly $280,142 for April from the park improvement sales tax, which is $59,858 more than needed for Bond Payment of $220,283 for 2024.

Park operation sales tax for March equals $140,071.
