ARDOT releases four-year improvement plan, many projects proposed in Twin Lakes Area

The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) had released its Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) for 2025-2028 Federal Fiscal Years and many projects are included in the plan for the Twin Lakes Area.

As we reported on yesterday, the major project in our area is for U.S. Highway 412, or U.S. Highway 62/412 as it’s known in north central Arkansas. But many other projects are planned in the area over the next several years.

BAXTER COUNTY

-Partnering project with the city of Mountain Home for work on the bridge over Hicks Creek on State Highway 5 South at a cost of $1.7 million to be done in 2025.

-Making improvements to 6.47 miles of Highways 62B and 178 in Mountain Home.

-Repaving State Highway 5 from U.S. Highway 62 to Highway 62B.

-Repaving State Highway 201 from Mountain Home to the Missouri state line.

-Repaving State Highway 178 from U.S. Highway 62 to Norfork Lake, from Rodeo Drive to Highway 62B in Mountain Home and from east of Lakeview to Bull Shoals Lake.

-Repaving State Highway 101 from U.S. Highway 62 to the Missouri state line.

-Repaving State Highway 14 from the Searcy County line to the Stone County line.

-Rehabilitate the Norfork National Fish Hatchery and visitor parking in 2026.

MARION COUNTY

-Work on State Highway 235 at a cost of $500,000 to be done in 2025.

-Resurface Buffalo Point Road and parking area.

FULTON COUNTY

-Work to be on bridge over Pine Hill Creek on State Highway 395 at a cost of $2.1 million in 2025.

-Repaving State Highway 9 from U.S. Highway 63 to State Highway 395 and from Highway 395 to U.S. Highway 62.

-Making improvements to 12.73 miles of State Highways 175 and 175 Spur in Fulton and Sharp counties.

IZARD COUNTY

-Work to be done on the bridge over Calico Creek on State Highway 56 at a cost of $3.3 million in 2026.

-Work to be done on the bridge over Hars Creek on State Highway 56 at a cost of $2.5 million in 2027.

-Repaving State Highway 9 from the Stone County line to Brandenburg and from State Highway 69 to State Highway 56.

-Repaving State Highway 56 from State Highway 223 to Brockwell and from Highway 223 to State Highway 5.

STONE COUNTY

-Work to be done on the bridge over Sugarloaf Creek on State Highway 5 at a cost of $5.1 million in 2028.

-Work to be done on the bridge over Brush Creek on State Highway 9 at a cost of $3.2 million in 2028.

-Repaving State Highway 5 from the Baxter County line south for 19.71 miles.

-Improvements to a 9.93 mile stretch of State Highway 5.

BOONE COUNTY

-Repaving State Highway 7 and Highway 65B from State Highway 43 to U.S. Highway 65.

-Improvements to a 10.24 stretch of State Highways 392 and 397.

SEARCY COUNTY

-Realignment of State Highway 66 in Leslie at a cost of $3.8 million in 2025.

-Repaving State Highway 14 from the Baxter County line to the Marion County line.

-Repaving U.S. Highway 65 from State Highway 27 to South Mountain Road in Marshall and from the Buffalo River to south of State Highway 74.

-Repaving just over 22 miles of State Highway 66 from Leslie to South Sylamore Creek in Stone County.

NEWTON COUNTY

-A major widening project of U.S. Highway 65 from Western Grove to State Highway 123 at a cost of $10 million to be done in 2026.

-Repaving State Highway 103 from State Highway 43 to the Carroll County line.

-Resurface Steel Creek Road in Buffalo National River

The STIP will be presented to the Highway Commission in October for consideration. Once they approve it, it then goes to the Federal Highway and Federal Federal Transit Administrations for their review and approvals.
