Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has submitted a letter to President Joe Biden requesting a 30-day, 100% federal cost share for counties impacted by the Memorial Day weekend storms. The storms produced a total of 17 tornadoes and 10 people lost their lives.

The current federal cost share is 75%. In her letter, Governor Sanders said that increasing the federal cost share will provide relief for impacted communities. “A federal cost share adjustment to 100%, up from 75%, will relieve the financial burden of recovery for the struggling communities,” Governor Sanders said in the letter. “If approved, these resources will help our communities come back even stronger.”

President Biden previously approved Governor Sanders’s request for a Major Disaster Declaration to support recovery and cleanup efforts in communities affected by the recent rounds of tornadoes and severe weather.
