A Harrison man was arrested following reports of domestic assault. Forty-two-year-old Timothy Shatwell is facing charges of battery, false imprisonment, terroristic threatening and being a habitual offender.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Boone County Dispatch received a call June 6 from a woman who stated Shatwell had physically assaulted her at his residence. On the same day, investigators received information claiming Shatwell had kidnapped a woman and held her against her will at his address.

When investigators arrived at the residence, Shatwell met them in the front yard. He was visibly irritable but allowed them into his home. Investigators found no individuals inside the house, but Shatwell became aggressive when asked about a woman being in his home. After being asked multiple times, Shatwell admitted to having a woman in his home over the weekend but stated she had left. When asked about the woman’s phone and wallet, he claimed he did not have either item. At no time during the encounter did Shatwell confirm the identity of the woman in question. When asked her name, he answered, “Well you’re here so you must know who she is.”

The next day, investigators met with the victim to conduct an interview. She claimed after she finished work in Fayetteville, she and Shatwell went back to his place. Shatwell allegedly became antsy and began calling her vulgar names. He then began hitting her in the face, causing damage to her nose and eye. According to the victim, this continued on and off until she and Shatwell went to bed during the early morning on June 1. When they awoke in the afternoon, she alleged Shatwell began beating her up again and continued until late that night. She told investigators she was kicked, hit and punched while she was in the fetal position. The victim stated she convinced Shatwell to take a nap because she knew he would continue to beat her, and she believed her ribs were broken or severely injured.

While Shatwell was sleeping, the victim retrieved her car keys, but her phone and wallet were in Shatwell’s truck. She went to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville June 2. Medical records show she sustained facial contusions, a lumbar transverse process fracture, multiple rib fractures, black eyes and a collapsed lung. The victim was released from the hospital two days later and filed for an order of protection against Shatwell. He has two previous 10-year protection orders against him by two unrelated women due to domestic violence.

During the interview, the victim said she was not held against her will, but she did not immediately leave because she feared Shatwell would beat her worse than he already had if she left while he was awake.

Shatwell was arrested and booked into the Boone County Jail and Detention Center on felony counts of second-degree domestic battering, first-degree terroristic threatening and third-degree domestic battering and another felony charge in Missouri. He also faces a penalty enhancement for being a habitual offender.
