With the filing period two weeks away from opening for city council positions in Arkansas, Mountain Home has its first announced candidate. Michele Linehan stated in a press release she has obtained the required signature to make a bid for a seat. Linehan is running for Ward 4, Position 1, currently held by Jim Bodenhamer.
Linehan retired from a 25-year career in mortgage lending and banking in December, most recently working at Centennial Bank. She says she has been an active member of the community since relocating to Mountain Home in 2005, and her interest in local politics heated up after being approached about the proposed Mountain Home School Millage. Linehan, who describes herself as a fiscal conservative, reportedly got interested in attending Mountain Home City Council and Baxter County Quorum Court meetings, and she’s been attending ever since.
Linehan says she sees a need for more transparency about how funds are spent. She also thinks some funds could be better directed elsewhere.
Linehan says she was a long-time member of the Mortgage Banker Association, active for about 15 years in the Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce prior to the coronavirus pandemic, held an advisory board position at Good Samaritan Society for a number of years and remains actively involved as an advisory board member at Arkansas State University-Mountain Home, where her focus is on financial literacy. Linehan says she will soon return to being an executive officer for the Twin Lakes Home Builders.
The filing period opens July 31.
