The heavy rains early Wednesday morning have led to several roads being flooded, and one bridge on Marion County Road 8060 has been washed out. Marion County Judge Jason Stumph spoke with KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot’s Sammy Raycraft to give an update on the latest.
Listen:
RAYCRAFT: Good morning, Judge. A very busy morning for crews and staff there in Marion County. Can you please give us an update on what conditions are like in Marion County this morning?
STUMPH: Yes, sir. First I would say, if you do not need to be out and about, please stay home. We have flooding all over the county. Downtown Yellville and Flippin both have major flooding. Moccasin Creek Bridge on MC 8060 is gone. So 8060 will be shut down for both directions from CCC going from Pine Mountain to Flippin. Crooked Creek Bridges and 14 South and down by George’s Creek, both were impassable at 4 a. m. They’re passable now, but I believe we’re getting the same amount of rain as we’ve had all morning, at least for the next four hours. And the last time it was updated was we had paid in just about two hours ago already this morning, sir.
RAYCRAFT: Wow. We’ve also been hearing reports of water rescues in the area. Can you confirm any of those?
STUMPH: Yes. Marion County Swift Water Rescue has been out since early this morning. They’ve started at Flippin, around the Hickey Park area, and that entire area is still underwater. And they were also on Berry Street in Yellville. They also helped move out the Creekside Nursing Home. Those that needed special attention were by ambulance by Baxter County all the way to Twin Lakes Therapy in Flippin. And they’re still moving people out right now to the fairgrounds. Some that’s been evacuating the Creekside Nursing Home.
RAYCRAFT: Jason, can you confirm this morning that Highway 178 in front of Ranger Boats is closed also at this time with water?
STUMPH: It was closed earlier this morning and they moved some debris. I don’t have an update on that. I can’t emphasize enough that if you don’t need to be out, please do not be out in this.
RAYCRAFT: And a key point, of course, is that bridge at Marion County 8060 has been washed out and is gone.
STUMPH: Correct. That is Moccasin Creek Bridge at 8060 is impassable between CCC Access and 178 Highway.
