The Calico Rock School District is preparing to go into the upcoming school year with new leadership. Rick Green was selected this month as the district’s new superintendent.
Green, who is currently in his second week as Calico Rock’s top administrator, says he was excited when he learned about his new opportunity and to return to an area he’s familiar with.
Listen:
Green is starting his 18th year as a superintendent, but it’s his first since 2011. He served for six years as the superintendent at Des Arc in the Arkansas Delta. He is also a former superintendent at Lamar in the Arkansas River Valley and Caddo Hills in the southwestern portion of the state.
One of the challenges Green will be facing at Calico Rock is its recent decline in enrollment. He says a change in leadership can sometimes help remedy a similar challenge, but he and others are trying to reach out to parents in the community.
Listen:
Green says the good news is Calico Rock has been a high achieving district academically. He adds the finances are currently stable.
Listen:
Green will succeed Jerry Skidmore, who announced his retirement in June.
