A medical professions teacher at Mountain Home Junior High was pleasantly surprised recently to be chosen as the Arkansas Association of Career and Technical Education (ACTE) New Teacher of the Year.

Jennifer Holmes whose classes at MHJH focus on teaching the fundamentals and history of healthcare for students in eighth through tenth grades is about to begin her third year as a teacher. She was nominated for the award and had to endure a challenging vetting and interview process to qualify. She tells KTLO News that she was so confident she had not won that she was distracted on social media when they announced her name at the ACTE conference.

Holmes says the conference in the Little Rock area had nearly 1000 teachers from around the state in attendance and she was honored to have been selected as this years representative for the award. Guiding young people into the medical field is what Holmes says she finds rewarding about her career as an educator.
