A man at the Arkansas Department of Corrections Varner Unit in Lincoln County died Friday after he was electrocuted.

Arkansas Board of Corrections officials said 53-year-old inmate Brian Walker was working maintenance and installing lights when he touched a live wire. He was transported to a Pine Bluff hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Officials say that Walker had convictions back to 1991 including hot checks, violation of DWI 4th offsense, theft by receiving, breaking and entering, and was serving a 40-year sentence from Pulaski County for a 2007 rape conviction.

This is the second time in July that an Arkansas inmate died by electrocution after a July 12th incident in a Benton work release unit.
