Earlier this summer the discount chain Big Lots announced plans to close about 40 stores across the summer due to lagging sales. But late last week, the chain announced on its website the number of stores they are closing is now almost 300. But for customers in north central Arkansas and south central Missouri, the news is good. The stores in Mountain Home, Harrison and West Plains are scheduled to remain open at this time.
Only one Big Lots store in Arkansas in on the list to be closed. That is the store in Fayetteville.
In Missouri, Big Lots stores in Independence, Jefferson City, Kansas City, St. Joseph and two in St. Louis will be shuttered.
California is losing 75 stores and 26 are closing in Florida. None of the 116 stores in Texas are scheduled to close according to the website masslive.com.
The website says federal filings show sales from the first quarter of 2023 to the first quarter of 2024 have dropped 10.2%.
