A Boone County woman has been arrested for attempting to hit her estranged husband with her vehicle, crashing into her son’s car and then fleeing the scene. Facing multiple charges for the incident is 58-year-old Melody Jane Tapprich of rural Harrison.
According to the probable cause affidavit from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, while deputies were en route, the caught up with the suspect and made a traffic stop after a short pursuit. At first, Tapprich would not exit the vehicle, but eventually did and was taken into custody.
Deputies then returned to the victim’s residence where they learned the situation started with an argument over the phone. Tapprich then showed up and tried to enter her estranged husband’s home and grabbed him by the arm but he was able to get the door closed and locked.
He told law enforcement Tapprich then got in her truck and rammed into their son’s car that was parked in the front yard and pushed it toward the front door. He says he feared for his life because if his son’s car wasn’t parked by the front porch, Tapprich’s truck could have rammed into the front door where he was standing.
Tapprich is facing felony charges of aggravated assault on a family or household member, residential burglary and criminal mischief along with misdemeanor charges of assault on a family or household member, obstructing governmental operations, refusal to submit to arrest, fleeing, failure to report an accident and leaving the scene of an accident. She is being held in the Boone County Detention Center on bonds totaling $10,000.
