Colorado fugitive apprehended in Harrison Wednesday

On Wednesday, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the apprehension of a fugitive accused to taking a female against her will with a firearm from Colorado.

According to a press release from Boone County Sheriff Roy Martin, investigators were contacted by detectives with the Branson Police Department requesting the assistance in the apprehension of a fugitive. Branson Police state they were assisting law enforcement from Colorado in attempting to locate 41-year-old Corey Lee Handy of Colorado Springs, Co., who was accused of taking a female against her will.

Handy had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for Kidnapping an Adult along with an additional warrant from the Colorado Department of Corrections for a parole violation on his original charges of Murder in the First Degree, a 2012 conviction for which Handy was currently out on parole. Branson Police along with law enforcement from Colorado believed Handy had been staying in the Branson area for a few days after his flight from Colorado.

Wednesday morning, Branson Police Department detectives had located Handy’s known vehicle at a residence in Harrison along E. Washington Avenue. Boone County Sheriff’s investigators and deputies responded to area to set up surveillance around the residence and surrounding street.

Before officers were able to serve a search warrant on the residence, Handy left in his vehicle. Authorities with the Branson Police Department, Boone County Sheriff’s Office and the Harrison Police Department were successfully able to block Handy’s vehicle before he could leave E. Washington Avenue and take him into custody without incident.

Handy is currently being held in the Boone County Detention Center awaiting extradition to Colorado.
