A Mountain Home woman arrested in late June stemming from a prostitution-related complaint that came into the Mountain Home Police Department appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court last Monday.
Fifty-nine-year-old Lori Thorne pled guilty to possessing methamphetamine – the sole charge that resulted from the incident – and was put on probation for six years.
THE ARREST
Thorne’s was arrested when an officer from the Mountain Home Police Department responded to the Executive Inn. The male occupant of one of the rooms said another man brought Thorne to his room and said he could pay to have sex with her.
The man occupying the room told police he was “offended” by the proposition and wanted the officer to speak to Thorne and the male.
When the officer spoke with Thorne, she said she had been told to “spend time” with the man in the room and to ask for $100.
She admitted going to the room, but said she became uncomfortable and left. No money or “services” were exchanged, Thorne claimed.
The officer said that Thorne had a waiver on file permitting a warrantless search of her person and property.
While the officer’s search was focused on any items that might have indicated Thorne was engaged in prostitution, he did find methamphetamine and paraphernalia used to ingest the drug.
EARLIER CHARGE
In an earlier incident, Thorne was arrested, along with her 23-year-old son Michael and 36-year-old Cory Scott Shelton, when they were found to have broken into a residence.
Police were called when the property manager called to report there were lights on in the house and someone moving around.
No one was authorized to be in the structure, the property manager told police. The police announced their presence and instructed anyone inside the house to come out with their hands up.
An officer watching the back of the house saw Michael Thorne run out of a rear door attempting to flee the scene. He was stopped and put in hand restraints.
Lori Thorne was the next person encountered. She came down the stairs and was told several times to put her hands in the air and exit the residence.
She was reported to have complied slowly and to have become argumentative when ordered to her knees.
Officers were concerned that more suspects might be in the home and Lori Thorne was “physically placed in the prone position.”
Shelton was the last of the trio to be arrested.
Initial charges against the three included residential burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Michael Thorne was eventually sentenced to six years in prison. He is serving his time at the Northeast Arkansas Community Correction Center at Osceola.
Lori Thorne and Shelton were given probation in the initial case.
