A man is in the Stone County Detention Center after allegedly shooting a teenager early Saturday evening. Sixty-year-old Steven Alan Gill of Luber is facing charges of aggravated assault and second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor. The 13-year-old male’s injuries were reportedly non-life-threatening.
According to Sheriff Brandon Long, deputies responded around 5 to a report of an individual shot in the neck in the southern Stone County community of Luber. Upon arrival, deputies learned the juvenile had been shot with a .22-caliber rifle. The teen was rendered medical care on the scene before being transported by air ambulance to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock. The unidentified male has since been released.
Shortly after the shooting, Gill was developed as a person of interest. Sheriff Long tells KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot News Gill originally said during his interview he was firing toward a couple of dogs near his private pond. However, as the investigation continued, detectives reportedly discovered evidence collected at the scene conflicted with Gill’s statements.
At last update, bond had not been set for Gill. Sheriff Long says the investigation is ongoing, and charges may be increased, changed or added pending the conclusion of the investigation and the review of the case by the 16th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
