A Salem man who pled guilty last year to charges stemming from his failure to return a rental vehicle and was put on probation for five years has had his probation revoked.
Forty-three-year-old Randall Lee Pool appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court last Monday.
Pool had his probation extended by five years, and he is being required to successfully complete the John 3:16 addiction program.
Pool told the court that his problems stemmed from a drug problem he has dealt with for 20 years.
A petition to revoke the probation in his Baxter County case was filed in early March. According to the petition, Pool violated the terms and conditions of his probation by possessing drugs and drug paraphernalia in Izard County.
INITIAL CASE
According to the probable cause affidavit, Pool was reported to have picked up a vehicle at Enterprise Rental Car in Mountain Home on Aug. 9, 2022.
The rental had been arranged by Montgomery Transportation in Birmingham, Alabama. On its website, the firm is described as a “flatbed carrier.”
Pool was reportedly told by the company to drive the rental vehicle from Mountain Home to Birmingham. He was then to interview for a job, return to Mountain Home and turn the vehicle, a 2022 Toyota Tacoma, back to Enterprise.
Pool did not show for the interview in Alabama and did not return the vehicle, according to police reports.
He was arrested after being found passed out in the rental vehicle by an officer from the Salem Police Department just before noon on Aug. 13, 2022.
There was no indication in the probable cause affidavit, if Pool ever left the area in the rented Toyota.
Pool disappeared for a time after charges were filed and did not enter a plea in the rental car case until Aug. 14, 2023.
Pool’s charges included theft of property and failure to appear. A charge of failure to appear in circuit court is a felony.
