Dr. William Snow remembered as family practitioner in Mountain Home for nearly 50 years

Dr. William Robert Snow is being remembered for being a family practitioner of medicine in Mountain Home for nearly five decades. Dr. Snow died Friday in Mountain Home at the age of 92.

Dr. Snow moved to Mountain Home at the age of 9 while his father worked on the construction of the Norfork Dam. He graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1950, where he played football and basketball for the Bombers.

Dr. Snow received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1954 from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He entered medical school at the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock where he received a Master of Science degree and graduated in 1958 with a Doctor of Medicine. While in medical school, he served as the medical resident at the Arkansas School for the Blind and worked summers on Sitkinak Island, Alaska.

After medical school, Dr. Snow joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam for two years and held the rank of Captain. After the Air Force, he returned to Little Rock to complete his residency at UAMS.

In 1962, Dr. Snow moved to Mountain Home where he began and co-owned the Mountain Home Medical Group. The next year, he became one of the first four physicians at Baxter General Hospital, served as its chief of staff on several occasions and served on its board of directors.

Dr. Snow was also inducted into the inaugural class for the Mountain Home Education Foundation Hall of Honor. He was also a long-time physician for the Mountain Home High School athletic teams and served as the Baxter County coroner for over 35 years and served on the Arkansas State Crime Lab board of directors.

Dr. Snow was also an entrepreneur. He operated several businesses including an ice-producing company, a meat processing facility, and he owned and operated the Farm Center in Gassville.

Visitation for Dr. William Snow will be Sunday at First Baptist Church of Mountain Home with the family receiving friends at 1. The memorial service will follow. Inurnment will be at Baxter Memorial Gardens.

He is survived locally by one of three daughters, Elaine Snow of Gamaliel.
