The Marion County Fair and Livestock Show are set to begin Tuesday. The activities will be held at the fairgrounds at 513 East Seawell Avenue in Summit.
The fairgrounds’ activities begin with exhibits being entered in the creative arts, horticulture and field crops divisions Tuesday from noon to 6:30. Only horticulture, field crops and baking goods will be allowed to be entered Wednesday morning from 7 to 8:30. The exhibit judging will begin Wednesday morning at 9:30, and the building will be closed to the public during that time.
Also on Wednesday, livestock will being entered at 11 and must be checked in and in place by 8 in the evening. The poultry testing will be from 5 to 8, and animals will be weighed in at 7.
Thursday will be School Day at the fair starting at 9 that morning. The livestock skills-a-thon will begin an hour later. Thursday is also Senior Day with Bingo and lunch at 11. Other activities later in the day include a tractor driving contest at 1 and a small animal show featuring sheep, meat goats and pigs at 6. The small animal barn will be closed to the public at 4.
Friday’s activities will begin at 10 with poultry judging and the dairy cows and goats show. Rabbit judging will get underway at 11:30. The beef livestock show is scheduled for 4, and the evening will conclude with the FFA/4-H Barn Dance from 6:30 to 9.
Saturday will be the last day of the fair, and it begins with the parade. Lineups begin at 8, and the parade will start an hour later. The route begins at the corner of George Stice Avenue and Arkansas Highway 14 and ends at the fairgrounds.
Saturday’s activities continue with the Touch-a-Truck event at 10. Calf dressing will be held in the big arena at 10:30. The show arena will house the greased pig scramble at noon, and the pizza and pie eating contest will start at 2. Marion County Paving will sponsor the Power Wheels Derby at 3.
Also at 3, the exhibit building will be locked and closed to the public. The exhibits will be released later that afternoon from 4 to 5.
Makin’ Bacon Meat Processing and Cattleman’s Auction will sponsor the buyers’ dinner at 4. The livestock auction will the final event of the fair starting an hour later.
