A man appearing in Baxter County Circuit Court Monday told the judge it was a “long story” as to why he was wearing someone else’s pants that also had someone else’s methamphetamine in them when he was being booked into jail.

Twenty-six-year-old Timothy Keplinger was arrested after being pulled over in late March when a computer check revealed his license was suspended for DUI/drugs.

Circuit Judge John Putman would not accept the plea Keplinger was trying to enter after a discussion about the wrong pants.

“If it was not your methamphetamine and you say you didn’t know it was there, then I’m not going to convict you,” the judge told Keplinger.

Keplinger stuck to the wrong pants story but said he would “take the fall” on the charges.

Judge Putman said that was not good enough and ordered the case to remain on the current trial schedule.

When he was arrested, Keplinger was taken to the Baxter County Detention Center. Before entering the jail, he was given the opportunity to give up any items that might be considered contraband.

He claimed to have nothing on him that would fit in that category.

But a quantity of methamphetamine was found in the pants he was wearing.
