The Yellville-Summit High School football team suffered its first loss of the season on Friday. The Panthers came up just short as they fell to Hector 20-14. Yellville-Summit drops to 1-1 on the season, and they’ll host Berryville next week for their home opener.
Salem’s last non-conference game ended on a rough note as they met another group of Greyhounds. Salem went on the road and lost to Newport, the fourth-ranked team in Class 3A by the Arkansas Sports Media, by a final of 42-6. Salem falls to 1-2, and they’ll begin 3A-2 action in two weeks when they travel to Melbourne.
Izard County struggled in its non-conference finale. The Cougars went to Quitman and ended up losing by a 45-0 decision. Izard County falls to 0-3, and their next game will be in two weeks when they host East Poinsett County for their first game in the 2A-2.
Melbourne had a dominating performance as they put the mercy rule in effect. The Bearkatz traveled to Cave City and came away with the 48-0 shutout. Melbourne remains unbeaten in three games on the season.
Harrison was unable to hold on to its lead in its last non-conference game. Searcy came from behind to edge out the Goblins 35-32. Harrison drops to 0-3, and they’ll begin their 5A-West slate in two weeks when they host Alma.
On the eight-man level, Marshall couldn’t hold on to its halftime advantage. Rector, the top-ranked team among the sanctioned schools, scored one touchdown in the second half, and it was all they needed as they topped the Bobcats 18-12. Marshall falls to 1-2, and they’ll continue their home stand next week against Subiaco Academy.
