A man listing a Flippin address pled guilty to charges filed against him in Baxter County Circuit Court last Monday.
Forty-one-year-old Derek Baker was sentenced to six years-probation and ordered to pay slightly more than $500 in victim restitution.
He has picked up criminal charges in Marion County as well and is currently an inmate at the North Central Unit of the state prison system at Calico Rock serving a sentence on earlier charges.
It was announced in court Monday that Baker’s Marion County case is being dismissed.
Baker’s current Baxter County charges stem from the theft of a wallet, five credit cards, $50 in cash and a chainsaw from a vehicle parked at a residence along County Road 303.
The victim said that theft occurred between Dec. 28 and 29 last year.
It was determined that Baker and a female went to Lowe’s in Mountain Home and used the victim’s credit card on Dec. 29, 2023. Credit cards were used twice at a service station in Gassville.
Cards were next used in Gainesville at a tobacco shop and the Dollar General Store.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Baker told officers it was the female who had used the cards at various locations. He denied knowing the cards were stolen or that he had gone to the victim’s residence and taken items from the man’s vehicle.
When the woman was interviewed, she said she had driven Baker to the victim’s residence and that he is the one who took the wallet and other items. She also admitted to going to the businesses in Mountain Home and Gainesville where the stolen cards were used.
At the time of the incident, Baker was on active parole and was listed as a fugitive by probation and parole.
Baker was charged with breaking or entering and theft of property.
