The traffic signal at the intersection of U.S. Highway 62B and Arkansas Highway 5 North in Mountain Home is back in service. Repairs were completed Sunday, nearly one month after it was damaged by a vehicle accident.

The stoplight originally went out of commission Aug. 23 when 72-year-old John Surber Jr. of rural Summit was attempting to elude a Mountain Home officer. Surber went through the intersection and traveled over the curb, striking the utility box and a fire hydrant before coming to rest.

The intersection was temporarily turned into a four-way stop. According to the Mountain Home Street Department, parts needed to repair the signal were shipped Sept. 13 and arrived during the weekend.

Surber is facing charges of second-degree criminal mischief, fleeing, driving while intoxicated and reckless driving from the crash. His attorney entered a plea of not guilty in Baxter County Circuit Court Sept. 9, and he is currently free on a bond of $10,000.
