A man was arrested last week on accusations of choking a female with a seat belt near Ava and fleeing when authorities responded. Thirty-eight-year-old Todd Chance was booked into the Douglas County Jail on a bond of $100,000.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy and an Ava officer responded to Rodeo Lane on a report of a female walking and appearing to be injured and disoriented. It was determined the victim had just been allegedly assaulted and choked with the seat belt by Chance. She was transported by ambulance to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
Chance had reportedly fled the scene. Sheriff Chris Degase informed the deputy he was familiar with Chance from past contacts, and a family member of Chance was residing west of Ava. Chance was located at the residence on Missouri Route Y and taken into custody by the deputy and the officer. He reportedly attempted to resist arrest and was also found in possession of methamphetamine.
Chance is facing charges of first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence and delivery or possession of a controlled substance in a county jail.
