Man suspected of starting fires, assaulting others shot by deputy

A male accused of starting several fires and assaulting multiple individuals in Missouri was later shot by a deputy. The unidentified suspect is currently at an undisclosed hospital after being transported by air ambulance.

According to a Facebook post from the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department, a 911 call was made around 2:20 Saturday afternoon of a structure fire in the southwestern portion of the county. The caller reported several structures and vehicles had been intentionally set on fire by the suspect, who also allegedly assaulted multiple persons, including a juvenile.

Deputies and fire personnel responded to the area. Deputies began searching for the suspect, and one found him nearly an hour-and-a-half later on a nearby Forest Service road. The suspect allegedly exhibited a firearm and was subsequently shot by the deputy. Other deputies and Missouri State Highway Patrol personnel reportedly arrived and started life-saving measures.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released.
