Viola High School has started another competitive athletic program. The Viola Longhorn Rodeo Club has already seen some action with more events on the way.
Viola High School Principal Jared Johnson tells KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot Sports there’s been a lot of interest in the program, and a number of their students were already in rodeo competitions before the program launched. He says there was a lot of enthusiasm when the club was first announced.

Viola expects to have its rodeo club compete in two separate seasons this school year, and Johnson says they already started with fall competition.

The opportunity for athletics and other extracurricular activities has been growing at Viola. The high school is also in its first season of Lady Longhorn volleyball. Johnson says as the principal, he is proud the school is giving its students more opportunities to get active and involved.

The launching of the rodeo program may also be an opportunity for some of Viola’s students to compete on the collegiate level. Missouri State University-West Plains also just started a rodeo program this year, and Johnson says they’re looking forward to working with the area junior college.
