More details about the fire at the Executive Inn last week have been released and it appears the blaze started when a man used lighter fluid and tried to set himself on fire in a suicide attempt. The 54-year-old man from Norfork was transported to Baxter Health following the incident.
According to the incident report from the Mountain Home Police Department, once officers helped get everyone out of the motel, they noticed a man lying on the ground in the parking lot having trouble breathing. While waiting for EMS to arrive, the man told one of the officers he covered himself with charcoal lighter fluid and ignited it in an attempt to commit suicide.
Officers noted in their report the man had singed hair and red areas on his body consistent with being burned.
Mountain Home Fire Marshal Shawn Loftons investigation confirmed the fire started in room 118 where the man was staying.
