One man is dead, and another is in the Jefferson County Detention Center following a shooting incident late Saturday morning in Pine Bluff. Forty-four-year-old John Carter of Pine Bluff is facing a charge of capital murder for the death of 29-year-old Otis Daniels.

According to a Facebook post from the Pine Bluff Police Department, officers responded just after 11 to a reported shooting at a residence on East 34th Avenue. Upon arrival, they found a male, later identified as Daniels, with apparent gunshot wounds near the intersection of East 34th Avenue and South Missouri Street. Daniels was transported from the scene to Jefferson Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead just before noon.

Officers found the shooting scene near the front door of the residence. Carter was identified as the suspect and taken into custody at the scene without incident.

After being battered, Carter rose to his feet on his porch, went into his residence and retrieved a revolver. Carter then exited the house and allegedly shot Daniels multiple times. Daniels then fled to where he was located by officers.

Carter was arrested, interviewed at the detective office and transported to Jefferson Regional for treatment of his injuries. He was released from the hospital later that evening and booked into jail.
