In response to the damage caused to the Moccasin Creek Bridge on Marion County 8060 during the flooding on July 17, Marion County Director of Emergency Management Melissa Penn and Road Foreman Greg Ashton met with Crouse Construction, Michael Baker International, and ARDOT to determine the cost and estimated timeframe of repair or replacement of the bridge. Officials determined the bridge’s structural integrity had not been compromised, and the partial failure did not cause further damage to the bridge structure.

The initial estimated timeframe included three and a half years for the planning process and an additional year and a half for construction. After thorough discussion and careful consideration, Marion County Judge Jason Stumph determined the residents of Marion County cannot wait upwards of five years for the bridge to reopen. A plan is to reopen the bridge and place a semi-permanent rock retaining structure.

Construction is set to begin Nov. 1 and is scheduled to conclude the second week of Dec. This plan aims to reopen the bridge in time for the holiday season travel.
