The Mountain Home City Council moved quickly through their agenda Thursday night, approving spending 2024’s remaining ARPA funds and rezoning of property in the Big Creek subdivision. Matt Sharp has the story.
Listen:
The council approved an ordinance to spend the city’s remaining American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds in different ways. Just over $1.6 million will be used as reimbursement to the city’s 2024 part-time and full-time salaries (other than elected officials) and employer payroll expenses beginning Jan. 1, 2024, until the amount is expended.
The rest will go toward sewer and water projects with just over $1.5 million going towards the SW sewer line extension and nearly $100,000 for the Highway 5 water sewer extension project.
City treasurer Alma Clark told the council the ARPA funds must be obligated by Dec. 31, or they have to be returned to the federal government.
In other business, the council approved the rezoning of a section of land in the Big Creek subdivision from residential R-1 to residential R-4. The developer plans to build townhouses on the land that will be between 2,000 and 2,500 square feet.
The council also approved some routine adjustments to the city’s 2024 budget.
