Calico Rock Museum and Visitors Center will host a short-distance road trip to Norfork to tour the historic structures at the Jacob Wolf House Historic Site on November 2. The tour group will meet at the Calico Rock Museum and Visitor’s Center at 10 in the morning and travel as a group using personal transportation.

The Jacob Wolf House was built in 1829 to serve as Izard County’s first courthouse. The structure still survives and is open to the public for tours. On the property is also the 1832 John Wolf Cabin. This cabin stood across the river opposite Calico Bluff until the 1990s, when it was dismantled and moved to its current location and rebuilt. Both structures have recently undergone major restoration work.

Site Manager Marlon Mowdy will give an immersive tour of the structures as well as the history of them and the people who utilized them. Mowdy has had a long career with the Arkansas Department of Heritage, managing several sites, including Davidsonville Historic State Park and Hampson Archeological Museum State Park.

The tour will have a limited number of participants, so officials recommend signing up early.
