Several cross country athletes gathered at Salem on Monday for the 3A-2 Conference Meet.
In the high school girls’ race, the host Lady Greyhounds finished at the top of the team leaderboard. Melbourne was second.
Mountain View’s Emma Akins won the 5,000-meter run, beating out teammate Erin Akins. Natalie Burk of Salem ended up fifth; Emily Shelton of Flippin took fifth place; and Salem’s Hadley Reed, Tinsley Leslie and Abigail Criss finished eighth, ninth and 10th respectively.
The high school boys’ title was captured by Mountain View. Melbourne was second, and Salem ended up third.
All of the top 10 individuals in the boys’ 5,000-meter run were from the area. Flippin’s Braydon Stumper won the race, Tyler Newton of Mountain View took second place, Melbourne’s Dawson Cooper and Shawn Wortham finished third and fourth, Rene Rascon of Flippin was fifth, Ladd Cook of Mountain View ended up sixth, Salem’s Anthony Levalley and Kamden Turner took seventh and eighth place, Cael Arnold of Mountain View finished ninth, and Melbourne’s William Lankford was 10th.
On the junior high level, the girls’ championship was won by Melbourne. Mountain View ended up second.
The 2,500-meter run concluded with Erin Akins winning the race. Aubrey Warner of Melbourne took second place, Mountain View’s Addy Davis finished fourth, Flippin’s Abby Washburn and Candice Mears were fifth and sixth, Zoey Whittaker and Amelia Fondriest of Valley Springs ended up seventh and eighth, and Mountain View’s Josie Hill took ninth place.
Mountain View came away with the junior boys’ title. Salem finished second, and Melbourne was fourth.
The boys’ 2,500-meter run was captured by Sawyer Hartman of Valley Springs. Flippin’s Nathen Shelton ended up second, Mountain View’s Dalton Sweat and Austin Glenn took third and fourth place, Thatcher Hart of Valley Springs finished sixth, Salem’s Hoyt Smith and Trey Fox were seventh and eighth, and Mountain View’s Chase Mitchell and Dawson Davis ended up ninth and 10th.
