On October 10th, the Mountain Home High School Bomb Squad, along with other competitive robotics teams from across the state gathered at the State Capitol to rally behind a new bill aimed at expanding robotics education. The proposed legislation, set to be introduced during the 2025 Arkansas Legislative Session, seeks to establish grant-funded support for the growth and enhancement of competitive robotics programs statewide.
Supporters of the bill believe expanding access to robotics education will equip more students with critical technical skills needed for the modern workforce. Through hands-on learning, students involved in competitive robotics develop expertise in machining, CAD design, electrical systems, and other engineering fields. Beyond technical training, the programs also foster essential soft skills, including public speaking, teamwork, marketing, and data analysisskills highly valued in today’s job market.
During the rally, students and coaches met with state representatives to share how robotics programs have transformed their education and impacted their communities. Advocates of the bill highlighted the initiative’s potential to inspire more students to pursue STEM careers, while also addressing the state’s future workforce needs.
If the bill is passed, schools and organizations across Arkansas could access new funding to launch or strengthen robotics programs. Supporters believe increased access to robotics education will help build a stronger, more competitive workforce, preparing Arkansas youth for careers in engineering, manufacturing, and technology.
