Mountain Home NJROTC reached its highest score of the season, defeating Hoke County AJROTC 1052.1 to 1008.7 in the 2024 National Sporter Air Rifle League. This latest victory brings the team to a 2-1 record.

Dylan Prins led Mountain Home’s effort with a score of 263.9, supported by teammates Karhys Herbert, Emerson Walls, and Lukas Pool. Coached by Jason Williams, the team now ranks 19th in the Distinguished Division and eighth within the Navy JROTC Conference.

Hoke County AJROTC from Raeford, North Carolina, is coached by Harold Thacker and was led by Savanna Boettge with a high score of 274.1. Teammates Xavier Scott, Jalyn Fernandez, and Devin Mansfield also contributed. Currently, Hoke County holds a 1-2 record, ranking 24th in the Distinguished Division.

Both teams will take a break in the coming week. The National Sporter Air Rifle League, now in its regular season, pits high school teams in a series of eight weekly matches. Teams compete in a Three-Position Air Rifle match, a format modeled on Olympic rifle events, where athletes shoot from kneeling, prone, and standing positions. Each match is scored in decimal points, with each shot worth up to 10.9 points, and team scores are determined by the top four shooters from each team.

At the end of the regular season, the top eight teams from the Champions Division will compete in a single-elimination tournament to determine the league champion.
