Currently, Baxter Health is out-of-network with UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage, AARP Medicare Advantage from UnitedHealthcare (HMO), and WellCare Medicare Advantage (HMO) plans.

Laney states UnitedHealthcare PPO will be accepted along but they do not have a contract with them.

Jean Gaylord, Program Director for Acute Inpatient Rehab, notes traditional Medicare often offers fewer coverage barriers than Medicare Advantage plans and emphasizes that Medicare Advantage plans, though sometimes less expensive, can lead to unexpected restrictions on care due to preauthorization requirements.

Laney advises those considering Medicare Advantage, “If it sounds too good to be true, make sure it actually fits with what Baxter Health can help you with.”
