MHHS boys win, girls finish 2nd in 5A-West cross country meet

Mountain Home’s cross country teams went to Alma on Tuesday to compete in the 5A-West Conference Meet at Alma.

The high school boys’ 5,000-meter run ended with the Bombers winning the conference title, finishing 23 points better than Russellville. Jackson Free led Mountain Home as he won the individual title in a time of 15:28.92. Also for the Bombers, Connor King was third, Garrett Barr ended up fifth, and Trenton Smith took sixth place. Harrison was led by freshman Hunter Frickle as he finished fourth.

The high school girls’ 5,000-meter run concluded with Mountain Home in second place, 31 points behind the conference champs from Russellville. Harrison was seventh. Lucy Koehn was the Lady Bombers’ top runner as she ended up third in 19:48.52, and teammate Camilla Johnson took 10th place. Russellville’s Paxtin Lewis won the race.

In the junior high boys’ 3,200-meter run, Mountain Home finished third with the title going to Russellville. Oakley Recktenwald led the Junior Bombers as he was third in 11:41.77, and Finley Maxey ended up sixth. Abiel Gonzales of Russellville was the individual winner.

Mountain Home took third place in the junior high girls’ 3,200-meter run, and Harrison finished seventh. Farmington won the championship. The Junior Lady Bombers’ Brook Bertalotto was fifth in a time of 13:50.38. Kagean Vandyke of Siloam Springs was the individual winner.
