75% of fire contained at Glade Top Trail southwest of Ava

Firefighters from the Mark Twain National Forest are continuing to fight the wildfire along the Glade Top Trail. The fire, located nearly 12 miles southwest of Ava and nearly 1,500 acres in size, was about 75% contained as of this morning.

According to officials from the Mark Twain National Forest, on Tuesday night firefighters conducted firing operations from roadways to remove fuels between the fire front and containment lines and stop the fire’s progression.

Officials report a spot fire did occur Tuesday on the north end. Firefighters were able to respond quickly and are currently working to stop it from spreading. With more firefighters arriving today, official says progress is expected to continue in securing the west and south ends of the fire. They also state rain forecasted for the area will assist in securing the blaze.
