After several days of battling a wildfire along the Glade Top Trail southwest of Ava, firefighters were finally met with relief as rain swept through the area last night, helping bring the wildfire to full containment.
The rain arrived after crews successfully used firing operations along the south line yesterday to secure the fire’s flanks. The moisture provided allowed firefighters to complete the control line around the burn area.
Now fully contained at 1,611 acres, fire personnel will continue monitoring the site over the next few days to ensure there are no new flare-ups. District Ranger Cody Lunsford of Ava/Cassville/Willow Springs advised residents and visitors to drive cautiously in the area, as some fire-damaged trees along roads and trails may fall in the coming weeks.
Lunsford also extended thanks to the Ava community, noting that support from local businesses and residents kept firefighters’ spirits high through challenging conditions.
