Unemployment numbers show significant improvement in the area in September

The latest unemployment numbers from the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services and the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center show significant improvement in September’s unemployment rates in north central Arkansas and southern Missouri counties when compared to August.

In Baxter County, the rate dropped from 3.7% in August to 3% in September. Baxter County’s rate is tied for the 24th lowest out of Arkansas’ 75 counties. There are 518 unemployed Baxter County residents out of a work force of 17,054.

Marion County’s rate went down from 4.2% in August to 3.3% in September, ranking it as tied for the 42nd lowest in the state. Marion County has 200 residents out of work from a work force of 6,043.

Fulton County’s unemployment rate declined from 4% in August to 3% in September, which means they are tied for the 24th lowest rate in the state. Fulton County has a labor force of 4,448 and 134 are unemployed.

The unemployment rate in Izard County went down from 5.1% in August to 4.1% in September, which has them ranked 63rd lowest out of 75 counties in Arkansas. There are 196 Izard County residents unemployed out of a work force of 4,839.

In Stone County, the rate decreased from 4.2% in August to 3.4% in September. That ranks Stone County tied for 49th in the state. There are 4,673 in the labor force in Stone County with 157 unemployed.

Searcy County’s unemployment rate moved down from 4.2% to 3.3% in September, ranking them tied for 42nd in Arkansas. There are 95 people unemployed in Searcy County out of a work force of 2,843.

Boone County saw its rate slide down from 3.4% in August to 2.8% in September, putting them in a tie for the 17th lowest rate in the state. Boone County has a work force of 15,882 with 446 out of work.

Newton County is tied for the state’s 17th lowest unemployment rate at 2.8%, down from 3.5% the previous month. Newton County has a labor force of 3,190 with 89 of those unemployed.

Arkansas’ unemployment rate in September was 3.3%, the same as the previous month.

In southern Missouri, Ozark County’s rate had a dramatic drop from 5.7% in August to 3% in September.

Douglas County saw its rate go down from 4.5% in August to 3.9% in September.

Howell County’s rate declined from 4.9% to 3.9% in September.

Taney County’s rate had a drop, going from 4.2% in August to 3.5% in September.

Missouri’s unemployment rate decreased from 3.9% in August to 3% in September.
