The Twin Lakes Area can expect to see more people in hunter orange beginning this weekend. The modern gun deer season will begin Saturday for zones covering north central Arkansas and continue through Dec. 1. Another holiday hunt will be held Dec. 26-28 with the exception of wildlife management areas that are closed during the regular season.

The bag limit for each hunter is five deer with a two-buck maximum. That includes two antlered bucks with archery or modern gun, five antlerless deer with archery and three antlerless deer with a modern gun. Button bucks count as antlerless deer, but the must be checked as a button buck, and they don’t count toward a hunter’s buck limit.

Dogs may be used for deer hunting for Zone 6, which includes southeastern Searcy County, southern Stone County and southern Newton County. Dogs are not allowed for the other two zones in north central Arkansas.

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is continuing its statewide surveillance of chronic wasting disease. Arkansans are encouraged to report all sick deer and elk by calling 833-356-0824.
