An arrest was made over the weekend from an area hit-and-run occurring nearly four years ago and resulting in the death of a pedestrian. Dustin Pippin was booked into the Douglas County Jail on Sunday on a warrant listing charges of second-degree murder, leaving the scene of an accident and tampering with physical evidence.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred during around the early morning of Dec. 20, 2020. Seventy-three-year-old Julia Hicks of Squires was in the roadway on Missouri Route N, nearly 5 miles southeast of Ava. Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase says she was reportedly struck sometime between 11:30 the night before and 2 that morning by an unknown vehicle, which then fled the scene. Hicks was pronounced dead at the scene just before 3.

Sheriff Degase says his office has been investigating the incident since it occurred with little evidence and no witnesses. He claims he was able to locate the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run last month, resulting in Pippin’s arrest.

Pippin’s bond is set at $100,000.
