Haworth discusses MHHS football team’s success, recaps state runner-up finish in 2006

The Mountain Home High School football team is less than 24 hours away from attempting to make its first state semifinal appearance in 18 years. While the Bombers are getting ready for their quarterfinal game in the Class 6A State Playoffs against Little Rock Catholic at War Memorial Stadium, one absence from the game will be the long-time Voice of the Bombers, Brad Haworth.

Health issues have kept Haworth out of the press box since the middle of the 2022 season, but he has been keeping up with the team from home. He says there’s a lot of well-deserved excitement surrounding the progression of this Mountain Home squad.

In addition to the support the team is getting from the community, it’s also spurring more interest in football among the local youth. Since Steve Ary has become the Bombers’ head coach, their roster size has seen considerable growth. In addition, Ary was instrumental in the development of the Bomber Youth Football League. Haworth says Ary is aware the key to building a program is starting from the ground up.

Haworth was in Little Rock when Mountain Home played in the state championship game in 2006. The Bombers lost that game to Texarkana to finish the season with a record of 7-6. When it comes to the 2006 team and this year’s squad, Haworth says it’s hard to make a comparison.
