2024 slightly warmer than normal for 1st 10 months

Through the first 10 months of 2024, the year has overall been slightly warmer than normal. At KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot, the official reporting station for the National Weather Service in Mountain Home, the average high through October has been 74 degrees, two degrees higher than the normal average of 72. The average low during the same period was 52, three degrees above the normal average of 49. The year has had its mixture of above average and below average months when it comes to temperatures.

January ended up below normal due in part to two record lows being tied. The month averaged a high of 40 and a low of 22. The normal averages are 44 and 23. The Jan. 15 low of -2 tied the day’s previous record set in 1979. The low for the next day was -1, tying the record for Jan. 16 set in 2018.

February was well above normal with two record highs being broken. The month averaged a high of 61 and a low of 36. Normal averages for February are 52 and 26. The high of 77 on Feb. 26 broke the day’s previous record of 76 in 1981. The high temperature two days later was 88, eight degrees above Feb. 28’s previous record of 80 in 1932.

The next four months also ended up being warmer than normal. March’s average high and low ended up at 65 and 40, with normal averages at 60 and 37. April’s averages were 71 and 49, and normal averages are at 69 and 45. The normal high and low for May are 77 and 55, but it ended up at 80 and 61 this year. June’s averages were 86 and 66, slightly above the normal averages of 84 and 63.

July ended up below its normal high but slightly above its normal low. The month was the second-wettest July on record with 9.64 inches and three daily rainfall records broken, including the flooding that occurred during the early morning of July 17. The precipitation kept temperatures cooler than expected. The average high and low for July were 87 and 68, with the normal averages at 90 and 67.

August experienced a normal month for its average high, but the low was slightly warmer than normal. The average high was 89. The average low was 68, two degrees above the normal of 66.

September experienced a similar trend to August. The average high was equal to the month’s normal of 81. The average low was 61, three degrees above the normal of 58.

October was warmer than normal with the average high and low at 77 and 49. The normal averages for the month are 71 and 47.
