The Mountain Home High School girls’ basketball team came up just short in a game that needed two extra periods to decide a winner. The Lady Bombers suffered a 73-68 double overtime loss to Har-Ber Monday at the Pioneer Pavilion on the south campus of North Arkansas College in Harrison.

The two teams kept the game close throughout the opening quarter. The Lady Wildcats started pulling away in the second period as they built a double-digit advantage. Mountain Home made its comeback in the fourth quarter, and with a two-point deficit, Anna McCarn was able to get free under the basket. Jayla Yonkers found McCarn for the easy layup to tie the game with 29 second left of regulation, and that would force the first extra period. Har-Ber had a two-point lead in overtime, but the Lady Bombers tied it back up when Brooklyn Mitchell took the double screen and drove to the lane for the layup with 1:13 left on the clock. No one else scored, forcing the second extra period. Mountain Home had a 66-64 lead in double overtime, but the Lady Wildcats reeled off the next nine points to take a three-possession lead. Yonkers got one more layup, but time ran out as Har-Ber posted the five-point win.

The Lady Bombers fall to 3-2 on the season, and they’ll be in Flippin on Dec. 5 as they meet Thayer, Mo., for their opener in the Billy Ply Memorial Tournament.

Mountain Home’s freshman girls also played at Northark as they fell to Springdale Central 36-19. The Junior Lady Bombers drop to 0-5 on the year, and they’ll return to the home floor next Monday for an outing with Nettleton.
