The City of Bull Shoals has selected a new flag design following a community-wide contest.

The contest received more than 800 submissions, with 186 residents from Marion and Baxter counties voting on their favorite designs. The top five designs were then reviewed by a panel of five judges.

In a meeting that lasted just 15 minutes, the judges unanimously selected a design by Allison Wiseman as the winner.

Gary Heimbach says the idea for the contest came to him as he was trying to find a way to bring unity to the city.

Heimbach says the judges were chosen based on their leadership roles within the community and their reputations for integrity. The panel included representatives from various sectors: local government, the business community, the arts, and state leadership.

The judges were Bull Shoals Mayor Carol Duss, VFW Commander Brian Jones, Sami Castagna, owner of Sami’s Art and More, Bull Shoals-White River Chamber of Commerce President Tim Koenig, and State Rep. Jason Nazarenko.

Being a Bull Shoals native, Wiseman says she based her design on crossing the dam.
