The Mountain Home High School football team’s first appearance in the semifinals of the Class 6A State Playoffs in 18 years would end up as their last game of the season. The Bombers fell to Greenwood on Friday by a final of 42-0.
It was all Bulldogs from the opening kickoff. Greenwood scored on every offensive possession in the first half. At the same time, Mountain Home didn’t seem to have an answer for anything the Bulldogs were throwing out as their only bright spot was Connor Schulz on kickoff returns. The Bulldogs’ defense has not been scored on since Nov. 1.
The mercy rule was invoked the moment the second half began. The Bombers did have something to celebrate during that time as Jacob Chenoweth broke the school record for the most rushing yards in a season with 1,856. The previous record was held by Will Dyer in 2006.
For the season, Mountain Home ended up with 4,925 yards, and 3,758 of those yards were on the ground. This season ended up being the fifth time the Bombers ended up with double digits in the win column.
Greenwood improves to 12-0 on the season, and they’ll head to Little Rock next week to face Shiloh Christian for the state championship. Mountain Home wraps up the year at 10-3.
