A Boone County man faces multiple charges following an alleged physical altercation with his girlfriend earlier this month. Twenty-one-year-old Christopher Waits is facing two felony counts of aggravated assault on a family or household member and one misdemeanor count of third-degree domestic battery.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the victim reported the incident to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office on Nov. 13. She stated that she and Waits argued throughout the day on Nov. 11, and the conflict eventually became physical.

The victim told investigators that during the altercation, Waits stuck his fingers in her mouth and pulled on her cheek, causing her lip to bleed. She also alleged that Waits choked her multiple times, to the point where she could not breathe, and intentionally burned her arms with what she described as a metal smoking device.

The victim further claimed that Waits forced her onto a bed, held a gun to her head, and then turned the weapon on himself, pulling the trigger three times. The gun did not discharge. After this, the victim said she was able to text her mother to pick her up.

Deputies noted the victim appeared emotional during the interview and struggled to recall some details. They observed burns and bruises on her arms but said she was unsure what caused the bruising due to a recent unrelated accident that injured her hands and arms. She also reported throat soreness lasting several days after the incident.

Waits was arrested and booked into the Boone County Detention Center on $15,000 bond and was ordered no contact with the victim.
