In a statement, LRPD officials confirmed that one victim was found at the mall and rushed to a nearby hospital. A second victim, also suffering from gunshot wounds, later arrived at a different hospital. Both victims are expected to recover fully.
Initially, the police department reported three injuries via social media, but later revised the number to two. LRPD Police Chief Heath Helton praised the department’s quick response to secure the area and ensure public safety.
“Our officers acted swiftly to secure the scene and ensure public safety,” Helton said. “On behalf of the Little Rock Police Department, our thoughts and prayers are with the families and victims of this senseless act, and we are relieved that the victims are expected to recover and we remain committed to holding those responsible accountable.”
At this time, detectives have not identified any suspects.
Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr. expressed his condemnation of the violence in a statement, calling gun violence unacceptable under any circumstances.
“The careless, senseless and criminal actions of two individuals today jeopardized the lives and safety of residents and visitors. We are praying for the victims of this incident, and are hopeful they make a full recovery.”
He also extended gratitude to law enforcement, first responders, mall security, and employees for their prompt action.
“We are grateful to our law enforcement officers, first responders, mall security and employees, and everyone who acted quickly to ensure safety and protect others.”
In response to the incident, Park Plaza Mall issued a statement announcing its closure for the remainder of the day.
“Our hearts go out to the individuals affected in this incident, along with their loved ones,” the statement said. “The safety and well-being of our guests and the community remains our top priority, and we are fully cooperating with law enforcement in their ongoing investigation. Park Plaza will be closed for the remainder of the day.”
