The North Arkansas Partnership for Health Education (NAPHE) will be hosting a workshop on a comprehensive approach to the prevention of substance use. NAPHE’s Region 2 Prevention Task Force will present “Learning the Strategic Prevention Framework” Tuesday from 10:30 to 1:30 at the Baxter County Training Center on 170 Dillard Drive near Midway.
The Strategic Prevention Framework is basically the science behind substance use. Region 2 Prevention Provider Program Coordinator Kyle Evatt was a recent guest of the Talk of the Town on KTLO-FM, and he says the workshop will feature a lot of hands-on activities.
Listen:
When it comes to substance-use prevention in the past, it included the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program and Nancy Reagan’s famous “Just Say No” chant. Evatt says evidence shows those tools to be mainly ineffective, and substance-use prevention has since changed. One thing he has introduced is the “Catch My Breath” program.
Listen:
The workshop will feature participants collaborationg through interactive activities to gain insights in applying the Strategic Prevention Framework in real scenarios. It’s designed to enhance the understading of methods used in substance-use prevention.
