A 16-year-old Ozark County girl who was a high school student at Gainesville was killed in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday night. The Missouri State Highway Patrol no longer identifies those involved in accidents, but the Ozark County Times says the victim is Andrea Winrod of Tecumseh.
The school has announced they will have extra counselors to help students deal with the situation over the next several days. The Lady Bulldogs home basketball game Thursday night against Cabool has been postponed.
According to the highway patrol accident report, the crash happened when Winrods vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and pulled into the path of a car driven by a 44-year-old man from Gainesville. Winrod was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was taken by private vehicle to an unknown hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The accident happened on Missouri Route 5, 10 miles northwest of Gainesville at 7:10 Tuesday night.
