The Flippin Police Department is connecting with the community of Marion County this holiday season with their annual Shop with a Cop program set for Saturday morning at 11 at the Flippin Walmart.
The event pairs officers with children recommended by the Department of Human Services, local churches, school counselors, and School Resource Officers. Each child receives a budget, funded by donations from local businesses and individuals, to shop for school supplies, clothing, or holiday gifts.
The program aims to foster positive relationships between law enforcement and the community, particularly with local children. Officers often volunteer their time to participate in the event, which provides a glimpse of law enforcement beyond their official duties.
Flippin Mayor Heith Hogan and Flippin Police Chief John Spence, say this event is a good way to connect with the children because it shows them a side of law enforcement outside of what they normally see.
